Mark Rusic: My Iconic Journey- Your Mentoring Opportunity
I am an acclaimed artist with a global footprint, reaching the "nations" from my studio as early as 2000. Inspired by the vibrant world of Disney characters and the sense that so many boring walls were thirsting for colour, I developed the Iconic Colours I am known for today.
The Journey: From eBay to the World
My path began selling physical paintings on eBay and rose to prominence at the historic Queen Victoria Market, where my wife and I proved the universal appeal of my work to collectors from every corner of the globe. I found I could often sell art to people who would say: "I have never bought art before I met you." — It was thrilling and highly contemplative.
The Catalyst: Art can help heal a hurting humanity
Throughout this journey, highly positive buyer feedback became commonplace; it confirmed who I am—it was a joy to give. As one New York collector summed it up: "Mark Rusic’s palette brings the Australian sun to any place on earth." However, what was life-changing was the consistent pattern that occurred—I saw that art in God's hands had the power to bring emotional healing and well-being. It was so pronounced from early on when one man acquired twelve of my paintings and shared: "I need the form and colour of your paintings to help me overcome my depression." This was truly catalytic, leading me to further refine my craft and study Van Gogh in depth. Art as a tonic became a hallmark feature of my work. Knowing I had something to help a hurting humanity led to the production of my best-selling books and a vast expansion of my creative bandwidth into photography, poetry, and creative commentary.
From Global Penetration to World stage Impact
From my first commission for a Swiss collector on Lake Geneva in 2002 to the Royal Exhibition Building, my work has graced some of Australia's most prestigious venues. I was deeply honoured when 300 copies of Iconic Melbourne were selected as official gift books for G20 world delegates through the Melbourne Museum, where I held a residency for over three years.
Today, after more than ten years of travelling across Australia visiting remote Indigenous communities, I have entered a new chapter: creating reconciliation-themed works for high-end hotels and corporate spaces. As the National Ambassador for Jiga Jiga Paint, I continue to produce "art that speaks and sings"—anchored in my Judeo-Christian faith, that faith that produced transcendent art of the past, and armed with spirit of Van Gogh, who said: "But the colourist of the future will be such as the world has not yet seen."
Mentoring & Mastery Opportunity:
To learn the "lost art" of making art that sells, and to understand—as Matisse said—art is meant to have a soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.
I invite you to contact me today. Explore my 5-W Mentoring Framework. My resolve is "Never just give a man a brush; but show him how to paint to sell and console the world"
Experience the Art: A Private Viewing
I maintain a curated collection of original works, limited-edition cards, and published books. My studio reflects a deep, enduring connection to the city—as one collector noted: "Having visited Melbourne galleries throughout, I found nothing so uniquely Melbourne."
Viewing by Private Appointment To ensure an immersive and personal experience, viewings are held strictly by appointment. I am typically in residence at the gallery fortnightly; please reach out to coordinate a scheduled visit.
